Meet Velika, Project Manager at Mapiq

Mapiq is created through collaboration of brilliant minds—want to know how? We asked our Project Manager, Velika Yordanova, a few questions to find out more about her and her process of joining Mapiq.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and what led you to join Mapiq?

Hi, I’m Velika and I joined Mapiq at the beginning of 2022 as a Project Manager. It started when a friend of mine was looking to take the next step in her career. She had a very positive interview process at Mapiq and was impressed with how forward-thinking and inspiring the company seemed. In fact, she was so impressed that when I decided to take the next step in my career, she recommended Mapiq to me.  

At that point, I had been working in project management in the public sector for a couple of years. Moving to the private sector and a new industry seemed like a great way to challenge myself. When I read about the Project Management role, it sounded like I was reading a description of myself. From the first interview through to the signing of my contract, the process was very smooth, supportive, and accommodating.  

What challenges do you get to tackle in your everyday work?  

Every day brings something new at Mapiq. You are given a lot of freedom and autonomy when it comes to your tasks and the items you work on. This is great, as you’re challenged to find the best approach to a situation. It also means that you don’t just think about your to-do list but also focus on the bigger picture and how everything fits together.  

In my team, we’re dedicated to implementing our projects while optimizing every aspect of project management. This involves syncing with multiple teams, thinking strategically about the tools we use, and polishing our ways of working. It is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the further growth of our team and the organization.  

 

What are you looking forward to achieving in your role?  

It is great that companies are now focusing on being people-centric. More and more organizations are pivoting and adjusting to the new realities of working, whatever they might be. However, to do this efficiently they need tools that work well and can be integrated effortlessly within their company culture. They also must have the data needed to make better decisions, both for general users and management teams. Mapiq fills this need perfectly.  

Sometimes, clients also have very specific goals or issues that they want specific solutions for. This is where my team comes in to create new ways to adapt to any given situation. I’m excited to see what solutions we’ll create for our clients in the future. The sky is the limit at Mapiq, and that’s inspiring to be a part of.  

Any tips for a future colleague?  

There are a couple of things that I learned during my interview process and over the course of the first few months at Mapiq. The main thing is that there is a lot of value in being open and honest. The best way to understand something is to ask questions and learn from your colleagues.  

I also learned that you shouldn’t be afraid to challenge any concept you hear or to provide feedback, regardless of whether you are speaking to a manager or a colleague. Mapiq is refreshingly open, and will teach you everything you need to know to do your job well—but it is also an organization that wants to learn from you.
